Birds, Squids & Teasers are important lures for salt water fishing. It is often best to combine them for best results depending on the fish you are after. Running squids behind birds helps them run right and increase the chance of the right species of fish striking. The example above is best used for Marlin. Run a bird with a few squid behind it. Try the Fin Strike Squid Skirts.
If you do not have the time to put this all together yourself then you should buy a kit already set up for the species of fish you want. For Swordfish there are the: Military style C&H SWD1-CSFB Swordfish Rig Kits in green, blue and white. these come in their own lure bag and the needle floss included for setting it up on your line.
The Blue rigged five inch Play action HBR-BL Hummingbird Teaser comes with a squid already attached and set up to attract all fish that strike on the surface to bite. It wiggles and splashed about jumping to replicate the action of a flying fish enticing a strike by wiggling and flaping wildly around. The in line teaser has a seven inch squid for attracting good sized fish. It trails behind about six to eight feet on a two hundred pound line. For a bit smaller fish try the swivel rigged five inch play action MBS Mini Bird Teaser. Similar but has a ball bearing swivel which is only one hundred and sixty pound test. The mini comes in black, blue, orange, and pink.
For high speeds try the Mold Craft 1000DC-15 Little Bird & Hooker Combo with a Blue/White/Yellow 4-1/2" Bird 5-1/2" Hooker. This combo imitates one fish being chased by another. This sparks competition instinct in fish and makes them want the lure to beat out the other perusing fish. Everyone wants to win but in this case you are the winner as the fish wont be able to resist these two lures pre-rigged in line to chase each other. Also comes in green and yellow combo.
The Mold Craft Soft Little Birds model 6200B-41 come in a variety of colors and are good for speeds up to twelve knots. Use them as lures, chasers or with a Daisy Chain lure. Try the Boone 55825 Daisy Bird Chains which come in different colors and have five birds that simulate a school of fish just asking to be eaten, about four and a half inches.
Want mackerel you need the Clark MDBS-ORBMS Mackerel Spoon Duster Rig. This rig comes in six different colors. The duster is an eighth ounce and really helps attract the bites. Spoon attaches with a swivel and the duster has the hook. Even better is their MT00RBMG Mackerel Tree Rig. The tree rig is great for Blue and Spanish mackerel. Four hooks in tubing in a variety of colors looks like a school of fish and creates lots of action to entice bites. Can be combined with the spoons.
After you use some pre-rigged lure combos you will enjoy mixing and matching your own birds, squids and teasers to make your own killer lure combos.
