Deer hunting is the activity involving the pursuing as well as hunting of the deer. Deer hunting has been in vogue from as early as 7000 B.C. The game of deer hunting includes the hunting of different types of deer, found all over the world. In North America, there are various types of deer, which are hunted in the games of deer hunting. In the eastern side of the Rocky Mountains, the most commonly hunted deer is the white-tailed deer. In the western side of the Rocky Mountain, it is the mule-deer which is hunted the most. Both these deer are small in size and so it is easy for the people participating in the deer hunting games, to hunt them down. In other parts of America, other species of deer, such as moose and elk are also hunted. But hunting a moose or an elk is not referred to as deer hunting; it is known as big game hunting. Both the moose and the elk are bigger than the white-tailed or the mule deer and so they are difficult to hunt down. In the UK, as many as six species of deer are found and deer hunting is allowed for all the six species. The six species are: red, fallow, roe, muntjac, Chinese water and Sika deer. All these deer are hunted either for game or for culling purposes. Stalking is the primary method for deer hunting. Stalking is a method, where the signs of a deer are followed by the hunter, in order to reach the deer and hunt it down. An alternate way of stalking is to draw the deer towards a line of hunters, by following the deer aggressively. Deer hunting equipments in the present world have improved a lot. There are many types of equipments available; to suit the various conditions and terrenes in which deer hunting is carried out. There are many legal weapons for deer hunting such as, bows, crossbows, rifles, shotguns, pistols and muzzleloaders. For different types of weapons, there are different deer hunting seasons. This is done for the safety of the hunters, so that they do no get injured or killed by the arrows or bullets of other hunters. Generally, the archery season for deer hunting begins earlier than the rifle season. Hunters also, generally use many tools during deer hunting. The more common tools include things such as vehicles, camouflages, tree stands or tree blinds, knives, chain saws, deer calls and of course a handheld GPS unit. At times, ladders are also used to get a better view and a better shot at the deer, in order to hunt it.
